CONFEDERATE STATES MARINE CORPS DETACHMENT

CO_Marines4w.jpg (7240 bytes)

The 'Confederate States Marine Corps Detachment' are members of

'CSS Alabama crew'

They, together with the sailors of the Alabama crew, Man HMS Warrior 1860 in Portsmouth Harbour, several times a year and perform ceremonial duties and mount guards aboard and ashore.

Our compliment is restricted to twelve members by agree with the Alabama Commander

The uniform we have adopted is a Blue/Grey 'British Army Cloth' Richmond Depot. jacket, 'Navy Blue' Trousers and a 'Navy Blue' forage cap. There is not much evidence for enlisted men's marine uniform, so we have used the two news paper description available as a basis. This is a 'fatigue' rather than a 'Full dress' uniform. Our accoutrements are black leather waist belt with brass 'Snake clasp', Cartridge box (worn on waist belt) and Enfield pattern frog for bayonet. Our arms are three band Enfield rifle muskets with triangular bayonet.
